HBO Go now supports Apple’s TV app and single sign-on feature

Apple’s recently released TV app is slowly picking up partners, with HBO adding support to its HBO Go app in an update pushed out earlier today. The premium cable network’s HBO Now app has supported Apple’s TV software since launch. But now the cable-only HBO Go is getting it as well, specifically the single sign-on feature that lets subscribers store login credentials through Apple. That way, you don’t need to sign in to HBO Go separately when you tap through to a HBO show from within the TV app. As…

Dropcam co-founder who hated working for iPod creator Tony Fadell joins Apple

Apple has hired Dropcam co-founder Greg Duffy for an undisclosed position, reports The Information. The move to Apple is an interesting one, considering rumors of a culture clash between Duffy and former Nest CEO Tony Fadell, who led development on the iPod at Apple before founding Nest. Last year, Duffy said that selling Dropcam to Nest was a “mistake” and criticized Fadell for the way he ran the company, calling him a “tyrant bureaucrat.” Duffy departed Nest in 2015 and continued working for Google as an Entrepreneur in Residence until…

Seven years later, we’re still asking the wrong questions about the iPad

When Apple’s iPad was first announced seven years ago today, some people wondered whether it would work as a giant phone. It’s hard to imagine now, given that talking on the phone is a dying art form. But this morning I was reminded (thanks, Facebook) of a photo someone took of me on January 27th, 2010 using a large piece of cardboard as a proxy for the real iPad; it was pressed up to the side of my face like I was making a phone call with it. It was…

Apple has filed a patent for some sort of vaporizer

The US Patent and Trademark Office this week published a patent application by Apple that details a peculiar vaporizer technology. The document, filed last year, outlines plans for an apparatus that can regulate temperature to release heat from a substance within a canister. It’s also able to keep air out of the chamber of the substance being vaporized. That little nugget of information might lead you to think that Apple is building some sort of iVape, but we wouldn’t be quick to jump to that conclusion. The patent application doesn’t…
